Smart AUCKLAND REACTOR gelding Plutonium NZ sent his stake earnings over the $50,000 plateau when he scored a thrilling last-stride win at Gloucester Park on Friday night (July 16).
Starting from the No 2 gate, the five-year-old enjoyed a box-seat trail behind the leader most of the way.
Gaining racing room on the home turn, Plutonium exploded in the latter stages to prevail by a short half head.
The mile rate for the 2130 metres was 1:59.9 with the final 800 in a slick 56.1 seconds.
It was the gelding’s eighth lifetime success.
Plutonium is out of the Iraklis mare Go Go Lavra, who has left three winners from three live foals.
