Highly promising AUCKLAND REACTOR six-year-old Jaffa Josh NZ kept his unbeaten record in Australia in tact with a convincing win in the Eric Reece Memorial at Hobart on Saturday night (March 13).
Starting from outside the second row, the gelding settled down near last of the 10-horse field.
Set alight three-wide at the bell, Jaffa Josh looped the field in the back straight and won with something to spare.
The mile rate for the 2090 metres was 1:59.9.
The winner of three races, Jaffa Josh is out of the lightly raced Dream Away mare Silk Rose, and is her first foal.
Earlier in the night the AUCKLAND REACTOR gelding Weeroona Boy outsprinted his rivals at Port Pirie in a career-best 1:58.
It was the four-year-old’s third success.
Bred and raced by Malcolm Meyers, Weeroona Boy is from Amberlu Ella (by Badlands Hanover), who won nine races and took a record of 1:57.2.
In North America, Smoke N Reactor, a NZ bred daughter of AUCKLAND REACTOR, led from end to end in 1:58.6 at Western Fair Raceway, Canada.
The seven-year-old is out of the smart Pacific Rocket mare Smoke N Mirrors 1:58.9 ($189,675), the dam of five winners from five starters including three in 2:00.
