Smart AUCKLAND REACTOR mare Miss Auckland completed a winning hat trick when she outsprinted her rivals in a Southern Belle Speed Series heat at Winton, New Zealand on Sunday (February 21).
Beginning like a rocket from the No 3 gate, the four-year-old took up the early running before handing up with 1200 metres to go.
Gaining an inside run in the home straight, Miss Auckland zipped home to score by three-quarters of a length.
The time for the flying mile was 1:54.3 – a new lifetime mark. She clocked 57.3 for the last 800 and 28.4 for the final 400.
The winner of four races and almost $30,000, Miss Auckland is the first foal of the Washington VC mare Arancia (1:59.4).
Another four-year-old daughter of AUCKLAND REACTOR, Nine Diamonds, took full advantage of a perfect to soundly defeat her opposition at Hobart later in the day.
The mile rate was 2:00.3 for 2090 metres.
Nine Diamonds has now won seven races and $45,000 in stakes.
She is from the unraced Art Major mare Major Love, the dam also of Miss Moraine (1:58.6).
