AUCKLAND REACTOR took the siring honours at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s Christmas meeting on Wednesday (December 23) with a winning double.
Skidaddle, a five-year-old mare, led most of the way to post her maiden success, while Georgie Zukov, a six-year-old entire, overcame a 20 metre handicap and a tardy getaway to win for the fifth time.
Both were very impressive winners.
Skidaddle rated 1:57.4 for 2400 metres with the last 800 in 55.5 and 400 in 27.2, figures which she could have sharply improved. She scored by 4-1/4 lengths under a hold.
Bred by Alabar Bloodstock, she is the first live foal from Caballe, a four-win Art Major mare.
Georgie Zukov rated 2:01 for the 2400 metre stand with the last 800 in 58.5 and 400 in 28.3.
He is the second foal and first winner out of Lillybrook (by Falcon Seelster).
On the same day, the brilliant AUCKLAND REACTOR gelding Plutonium NZ continued his march through the grades at Horsham (Victoria).
Sent straight to the top, the four-year-old proceeded his blitz his rivals, scoring by 15 metres.
The mile rate for the 2200 metres was 1:56.2 with the closing 800 in 55.5 and 400 in 27.6.
Plutonium has won six of his eight starts on Australian soil and seven races lifetime.
He is out of an Iraklis mare, Go Go Lavra.
